Opal Property Group Tops Out Its Tallest Development to Date

23rd of May 2008
Leeds students join Opal Property Group to celebrate the topping out of 25 storey Leeds 3 student apartments.

Students who will be living at Leeds 3 and representatives from both Leeds universities joined Opal Property Group and Ocon Construction staff to celebrate the topping out of the company’s tallest development to date, Leeds 3.

This 25 storey building, in a convenient location for both universities in Leeds city centre, features 566 bedrooms, a common room, residents only gym and an adjacent mezzanine bar.

Following light refreshments, the guests were given a tour of one of the completed apartments, followed by a trip to the summit.  The guest students will live on the 19th floor.  It was the first time they had seen a completed apartment and the views from their future home.

Opal anticipates that the development will positively impact the local community.  There has been coverage in the press recently about the creation of ‘Student Ghettoes’, which create empty communities during the Summer.  The ‘Opal in the Community’ initiative will use Leeds 3’s common room and student residents to host community events throughout the year.  The local community will derive benefit from the new development and it is hoped that the initiative will encourage greater interaction between the students and local residents’

Leeds 3 will welcome its first students in September 2008 and there is a nomination agreement for 200 rooms with Leeds Metropolitan University.  The remaining rooms will be let directly by Opal to students at both Leeds universities, as well as Leeds’ colleges.
