Chettles Yard Nottingham – Leading the Way in Environmentally Sustainable Student Living
Chettles Yard Nottingham is set to welcome students from both the University in Nottingham and Nottingham Trent University in 2009. When complete, the Chettles Yard development will be a first class student complex, providing the best in design and comfort for its residents in an attractive landscaped riverside location.
In addition to offering high quality living space for 1,000 students, this £61 million mixed-use development incorporates a number of new components that lead the way for future ‘green’ buildings within the city to follow.
Setting a standard to exceed the 10% renewable energy target, Chettles Yard incorporates several innovative initiatives. The land is being Bio-remediated: this process uses naturally occurring microbes to remove toxins from the soil and negates the need to remove soil from the site. The student buildings will be served by hot water generated centrally by Biomass boilers, which burn woodchips locally sourced from young Willow tree plantations. Furthermore, the latest ‘offsite’ solutions for the fabrication and erection of the buildings are being explored.
The completed development will comprise of seven contemporary multi-storey accommodation blocks providing a student village, with spacious en-suite bedrooms arranged in apartment clusters with shared kitchens/living rooms. In addition, two further mixed-use buildings will be built providing employment and retail space.
Chettles Yard is Opal’s second development in Nottingham; Opal provides accommodation for University of Nottingham School of Biosciences and School of Veterinary Medicine & Science at the Sutton Bonington campus.
